Turkish Delight

There is a large contingent of Turkish contractors on base. Scott has enjoyed talking with them and reminiscing about his time in Turkey. He has even had the opportunity and challenge of doing some translating from time to time. He has enjoyed it all, but on Sunday he and others who have worked alongside the contractors were invited to share a meal. Instantly, Scott was transported to another time and place as he savored soups and relished real Turkish rice (emphasis Scott's!). There was no report on whether dessert was the super-sweet Turkish Delight (kind of like a giant soft gum drop--but much , much better) but certainly, Scott was delighted. There were two disappointments to the event. First, communication about the invitation was poor so only a handful of Americans showed up and the Turks were expecting 40+. Second, when Scott and the guy he went with got up to go, they were the only Americans left so they had to walk and walk and walk and walk back to their section of base. He said it was worth every bite!
